Falcons top Auburn Mountainview in 2016 opener!

Booster Club News

Our Falcons emerged victorious in the season opener versus the Lions of Auburn Mountainview, 34-20, at Auburn Memorial Stadium.

Mountainview scored first, receiving the opening kickoff and driving the length of the field for a touchdown.  Kentlake responded quickly, tying the game on a 40 yard catch and run from Justin Peterson to Larry Alar, Jr.

Senior RB Eddie Edwards took over from there, scoring three touchdowns (5, 70, and 50 yards) in the first half.  The Falcons defense held the Lions scoreless for the remainder of the half, and Kentlake took a commanding 26-6 lead into the break.

Junior QB Brandon Mortenson took over for Justin Peterson, who appeared to aggravate a knee injury in the second quarter.  The Falcons offense took to the ground game, eating clock, and the third quarter passed without either team adding to the score.  Larry Alar snagged his second interception of the game to keep the Lions on their heels.

Mountainview broke their scoring drought in the 4th quarter with a tough 15 yard touchdown run up the middle, but Kentlake responded with a 16 yard TD keeper from Mortenson.  The Lions added a score on a fumble return for a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.  Kentlake was able to run out the clock to win the game by a final score of 34-20.

Kentlake starts the season at 1-0 and will next face Enumclaw on Saturday, September 10th at 6:00 pm at French Field.  Enumclaw won their opening game last week, 24-7, versus White River.
