Our Falcons shut out the visiting Mt. Rainier Rams on Thursday, 45-0, to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Junior slotback James George sparked the Falcons on their opening drive with a 42 yard run, setting up a 13 yard touchdown pass to George from Junior QB Trey Helgeson. George caught another touchdown pass from Helgeson in the first half, a 34 yard strike on 4th down and 20.
Helgeson threw two more touchdowns in the first half, 27 yards to Cody Lee, and 26 yards to Matt Burley. Helgeson followed up a seven touchdown performance vs. Decatur last week with four first half touchdown passes this week. Through three games, Helgeson has eight touchdowns passing and three rushing.
Burley set himself up for his first half touchdown by taking an interception return for 56 yards with 19 seconds remaining in the half. Burley has five interceptions in the first three games of the season.
Drew Dixon and Micah Viafale each scored on short touchdown runs in the first half, and helped control the ball in the second half. Kentlake, up 42-0 at halftime, chewed up the entire third quarter on a single drive.
Junior PK Tyler Padilla capped the Kentlake scoring with a 32 yard field goal in the third quarter.
Junior LB Anthony Roller forced and recovered a fumble, as the entire Kentlake defense pitched a shutout.
Kentlake will open their SPSL Northeast schedule against Kent-Meridian (2-1) on Friday night at French Field.
