The Enumclaw Hornets (2-0) scored four times in the fourth-quarter to tally a big 49-17 win over Kentlake (1-1) last Friday at Pete’s Pool Stadium in Enumclaw.
The Hornets scored on their first possession of the game capping an 80 yard drive. Kentlake fumbled on their opening drive, setting up a short field and allowing Enumclaw to score and quickly go up 14-0 in the first quarter. Kentlake responded at the end of the first quarter with an 85 yard drive, capped by a 53 yard touchdown pass from Brandon Mortenson to Jeremiah Woods. Hudson Potts sparked a defensive rally in the second quarter with an interception and 30 yard return, setting up an 11 yard touchdown pass from Potts to Jeremiah Woods. With seconds left in the half, Hudson Potts broke free on a 70 yard run into the endzone, but the play was called back on a penalty. The teams went into halftime tied at 14-14.
Enumclaw broke the tie in the third quarter, going up 21-14. Kentlake responded with a 29 yard field goal from Tyler Hopp, making the score 21-17 to begin the final quarter. The Hornets scored to open the fourth quarter and rode a wave of momentum to score three more times in the half.
Kentlake will open division play next Friday versus Kentridge at 7:00 pm at French Field.
